The Friends in Public Service

Welcome from the National President

Frances S. Robinson, 18th National President
Greetings,
I am Frances S. Robinson, 18th National President of Las Amigas Incorporated from Richmond Virginia in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  I am thrilled to invite you to view our newly designed website.  I sincerely hope that your inquisitiveness in this group of sisters is cause for you to want to initiate a circle of “FRIENDS” in your community.
Las Amigas Incorporated was founded in 1957 by two extraordinary visionaries in Charlotte, North Carolina, the late Dora R. Mason and the late Mary Q. Moore, who visualized a sisterhood of African American respected, community minded ethical, honorable, and professional women.   Women who wanted to address the issues of their community through awareness, support, action and advocacy.  They wanted to be viable sisters who raised issues, developed partnerships, encouraged action, provided support and developed a legacy that would last.  These two sister friends paved a way for a circle friends to grow into 25 chapters in four regions throughout the East Coast of these United States to boost a membership of dedicated sisters.
In these 54 years, we have join forces and developed partnerships with many other national organizations, where we have created a positive force in issues of education, health, human rights, social justice, economic stability, political awareness and involvement for the betterment of our community and our people.  We also have a shared vision that include but is not limited to integrity, honesty, service, kindness, teamwork and a dedicated commitment to improving and advancing those less fortunate, for we are our sisters keepers.  We do the hands-on, down and dirty outreach work…we host drives, fundraisers, we stock food banks and pantries, we provide school supplies, scholarships, repair and assist in building homes, raise money for poor African countries and islands, just to name a few.
We host regional meetings in each region, chapters meet on a monthly basis and we gather as a group twice a year, with our annual Conclave meeting being held in June of each year.  The theme for my administration is Making a difference in the sisterhood by turning obstacles into opportunities.”

I thank you for visiting our website and if we have aroused your interest in becoming affiliated I invite you to join us on this fantastic journey of love, kindness and friendship and to contact us.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Sisterly,

Frances S. Robinson
