Las Amigas, Incorporated was founded in 1957 in Charlotte, NC by two amazing, remarkable and unique visionaries - Mrs. Dora R. Mason and Mrs. Mary Q. Moore. Friends that saw the need to establish a progressive organization for professional African-American community-minded women to work together to inspire, promote and empower their lives as they improved and enhanced the lives of the less fortunate and underserved in their communities.
The sisterhood established 62 years ago, was founded on the premise that sisters would depart from the traditional volunteer roles and become ambitious caring individuals who would provide and promote general improvements in the quality of life for all persons, provide academic excellence, promote leadership, peace, harmony and political awareness through their deeds.
After several thousands of community service hours later, the vision of our founders continues to unfold through our chapters in North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and our nation's capital as they continue to reach out to the least fortunate. This fantastic sisterhood continues to impact lives and they have made a difference and left their mark on the communities served. The legacy lives on. "When we gather great things do happen."
